Olde English Country Dance
|
|
Country Dances from the Regency EraThese Regency Era Country Balls happen every three weeks during the summer on a Saturday night from 6:30-9:30pm. Each time that we got together we spend about 10-15 minutes learning a dance, then dance it. We then will learn a second dance, afterward taking a twenty minute refreshment time because, although theyare not difficult and anyone can do them, they can be quite exhausting! The second hour will run much like the first. We have another refreshment period to get ready for the finale, where we run through all of the dances from that evening and sometimes a refresher ofother evening's dances as well. The instruction and calling out of moves is done throughoutthe evening and there is much laughter and merriment. The costumes from the Regency period are short pants with white knee socks for the menalong with frilly shirts and cravats and vests, but the ladies can get by with any long dress.Gentlemen may also wear dress pants, vest, and shirt and still fit in nicely. A costume isnot required, just encouraged. It's part of the fun of the evening.Get on our email list to be notified ofall happenings concerning dancing with the Starrs!bjrstarr@yahoo.com
